ABOUT US

Lucky Pigeon Brewing is a dedicated gluten-free brewery located in the historic Pepperell Mills in Biddeford, Maine. Lucky Pigeon started as the dream of Kathleen Pigeon (our original “Lucky Pigeon”) who had to remove gluten from her diet for health reasons. The idea took root during a family vacation where a visit to a craft brewery provoked the thought, “wouldn’t it be great to have a tasting room experience that folks who are gluten-free can enjoy?”

Dedicated gluten-free

All ingredients that go into the making of the beer are gluten-free to begin with (the requirement is that they test less than 20ppm in a competitive ELISA format). The distinction between dedicated gluten-free and gluten-reduced or gluten-stripped beers means that our beer will be safe to drink for those with any level of gluten intolerance.
Gluten-reduced beers on the market are made using traditional barley, wheat, or rye grains to brew and then using a biological or chemical agent to break down the gluten proteins, which renders them unable to be detected by the competitive ELISA. For many people, including those with Celiac disease, this is not enough to mitigate their immune reactions. The only option for this population of people is a dedicated gluten-free beer.
